But it was all obvious prologue to a very unsurprising - if brutal - payoff. ![]() Meaty monologues like the one about the “painter who used only red” add much-needed shading to the otherwise monochrome grimness of Westeros, and give gifted actors like Nikolaj Coster-Waldau a chance to flex their muscles, even if they are chained to a post and sitting in their own filth. In many ways, the episode functioned as an extended version of Jaime’s little family reunion in the polar bear cage. But the pacing felt stiff and uncomfortable, like it had just woken up from a long night next to Ygritte. It featured as many wonderful character moments as there are murderous Dean doppelgangers in Qarth. Still, even with this focus on the family, “A Man Without Honor” was a strange and digressive episode of Game of Thrones. As last night demonstrated, the whole, scattered lot of them - young, old, male, female, bastard, and serious bastard - have been forced into a grown-up game before they’ve had nearly enough time to study the rulebook. ![]() ![]() ![]() In aesthetic terms, The Joshua Tree might have been only a few degrees removed from the atmospheric art-rock of The Unforgettable Fire, but it transcends genre or niche. But after exiting the stage to the sound of thousands of fans singing their own refrain to “40” back to them, against the vivid backdrop of Colorado’s Red Rocks, U2 were ready for something that could fill stadiums and streets-an album that would become their defining statement and their most awe-inspiring artistic accomplishment as a band. Though their previous records had been nearly overstuffed with lofty concepts, particularly their Brian Eno-produced 1984 effort The Unforgettable Fire, all their music up to that point had been defined by the aesthetics of goth and the tension of post-punk. Only a half-decade removed from their ZOO TV tour-its stage festooned with giant video screens, and Bono adopting certain character personas during their performances-U2 had completed their metamorphosis into a Big Statement band. ![]() But as the band ascended the summit toward being the biggest band in the world, the more they embraced it. Up until this point, U2 had an image as being earnest and serious, not necessarily the last group you’d expect to resort to headline-grabbing antics, but certainly not the first. That kind of sight is pretty hard to forget. But the finer details of what happened almost aren’t that important-U2 played a show on a roof in Los Angeles and filled the street with spectators. Though a sizable crowd did show up, it didn’t number in the tens of thousands, as the radio DJ voice at the beginning of the video suggests. The police did show up, but they didn’t shut down the performance as the band had hoped, making their act of rebellion feel perhaps a little bit less rebellious. They succeeded, but the way the event is portrayed in the video for “Where the Streets Have No Name” is a slight distortion of the truth. Inspired by The Beatles’ final rooftop concert in Let It Be, the group sought to create a spectacle-a publicity stunt as much as an act of disruption. Two weeks after the March 1987 release of their fifth album, The Joshua Tree, the members of U2 took over the roof of a liquor store in downtown Los Angeles, drawing a crowd of over 1,000 people and more than a few police officers. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you have family or roommates who complain about noise, it's a worthwhile option. Soon becoming its vice president, Kurupt signed again to Death Row. In early 2002, an unofficial remix/compilation album titled 2002, by Tha Dogg Pound, provoked questions about the duo's relationship with Death Row. Kurupt's then-fiancée, the late Natina Reed, performed the hook of its single "It's Over." Return to Death Row Kurupt's following solo album, Space Boogie: Smoke Oddessey, with production by Daz and by up-and-coming producer Fredwreck, and released by Artemis Records, fared better. Daz and Kurupt, as the DPG, released Dillinger & Young Gotti, which received lukewarm reviews. Some basic compressor settings to get you started. If you still feel your kick is not as aggressive / in your face as you would want it, the next step I would advise is to either put a slight touch of saturation in your kick chain to add harmonics which will give it even more grit and presence. Adjust the threshold for a higher gain reduction about 6-8dB with the same release amount. If you want your kick to be even more in your face, I would increase the ratio to about 5:1-6:1 with a slightly lower attack at 3ms. The attack level could of course be higher depending on how prominent the “click” transients are, and how much you actually want to pass through the compression process.Īdjust the threshold to about 3-4dB of gain reduction and set the release to about 150-200ms. With this in mind, you want your attack value around 3-4ms on a ratio of 4:1. As mentioned earlier, you want to make sure your kick is the leader of the low end area, making sure it’s drawing the attention to give it the desired weight and presence to cut through your mix. Be careful tho with your compression on the kick in particular. Finally but last, the very low end (sub) areas of your kick, I always cut the kick under 30hz with a 18dB slope to clear out rumble that will fight your sub bass for space.Ĭompression is your next best buddy when it comes to mixing kick and bass. Be careful here tho, cause this is the area where your bass sound also needs space to fit in. If you feel your kick is lacking thickness and “thump”, I usually boost the areas around 120hz. I personally like to cut this area a bit on these kind of kicks to make it cleaner and tigher sounding. Some kicks come with something that I call “mud” around the 400hz range. Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to EQ – If it sounds good, it sounds good! Around the 6-700hz range I usually find most kicks causing a bit of annoyance, so I tend to cut this area accordingly to the amount of “boxiness” that your kick is creating here. I personally like a lot of presence in my kicks, which is why I always try to boost the 4khz range where you can bring up a bit of the attack of the kick to help it cut through your mix more easily. Depending on your choice of kick drum, I often roll off everything over 16khz to remove high harshness that tend to annoy your ears if its too loud. The mid and hi-range of your kick is where the character of your kick is sitting most of the times. When you’re happy with your choice of kick drum and moving on to the bass line(s) and other low-end related elements, then make sure nothing overrides the kick gain wise.ĮQ is truly your best friend when it comes to tweaking your kicks. ![]() Once you’ve chosen your kick, set the volume with just a few dB of headroom to start off with. When playing on PC or Wii while doing the executions, there is a quick time event which lists down certain moves that either the mouse or Wii Controller must move or by pressing a certain button at a specific time in order to finish the execution. The player is entirely in control of which level they use once the player has locked onto an enemy, the lock-on reticule changes color over time to indicate the level white (level 1), yellow (level 2), and, finally, red (level 3). There are three 'levels' of execution, with each level progressively more violent and graphic than the last Level 1 (Hasty) executions are quick and not very bloody, Level 2 (Violent) are considerably more gory, and Level 3 (Gruesome) are over-the-top. As with the original game, the primary gameplay mechanic is stealth execution, whereby the player character must approach an enemy from behind, undetected, and kill them. Manhunt 2 received largely polarized reviews from critics and audiences. Rockstar appealed their decision, and ultimately, the Video Appeals Committee voted that the game could be released with an 18 certificate. However, the BBFC still refused to classify the edited version for its UK release. This edited version was rated M in the US by the ESRB and was released on 29 October. In response to these ratings problems, Rockstar censored the game, blurring the screen during the game's executions and removing the scoring system, where players were rewarded for particularly brutal killings. As Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony Computer Entertainment do not allow licensed releases of AO titles on their consoles, this would have severely limited their potential customer base in the US as well. Originally scheduled for a North American and European release in July 2007, the game was suspended by Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive when it was refused classification in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and given an Adults Only (AO) rating in the United States. You can pick up 9.7mm unidirectional electrets for about £0.20 each not as good as the Boya and for voice capture it has some simple advantages over a omnidirectional. The Boya seems to work well and all it is, is a 14mm high quality directional electret in a very well made metal case but just a very good one for price. I am sort of rattling on here as you mentioned ‘octaprints’ and it would be so good if someone with 3d printing skills might have a look what might be the best budget option by far. The Boya is a unidirectional mic which just means it has a cardioid pattern which helps give a small amount of echo & noise suppression which when close up it does help much with AEC. I find its rare that placement is in a centre of a room as often from walls to tables they are usually in position where much of the 360 of omnidirectional is not used. Lols the Boya is actually good but I was stressing get audio in/out on the same device as AEC/barge-in can be pretty important later on. Its debatable if the sum of the channels is an increase over the sum of the SNR which will happen and also side on it forms a high pass filter. That still doesn’t explain why its not recognised as the drivers are not great but they do work even though they are a reverse engineer hack that have had the same niggles for over a decade.
